Kawasaki's can sometimes be a little balky on the 1-2 shift and if you have a heel/toe shifter, it is soooo easy to give the old heel a stomp and then ugly things happen inside the transmission.Check for oil around the spark plug cavity and then explore this further. On the 1500, the service manul says a special tool is need to pull the spark plug tubes, but you can fashion a tool out of the rear axle nut and unscrew the tube. I'd bet the 800 is similar. After engagement of gears as soon as I let the clutch out she didn't want to go and cut oooot. So after removing the Clutch Lever switch aka the Bullshit Switch and putting a loop into the contacts she was fine. Either but a new switch or do what I did. I've been having trouble getting the carburetor dialed in on my Vulcan 800. At this point, I'm not sure if my thoughts were correct, or if something else is causing the problem. It's a '99 VN800A with Cobra exhaust. I did the Russian Wolf EPA mod, and also drilled out the plug covering the air idle mixture screw.In most cases, that doesn't seem to matter; but in some, this causes plug fouling. The best solution that has been found by the Vulcan community is to go up one step in heat range to the next hotter plug; in the case of the 800, the NGK CR6E. Literally noone who has installed a CR6E in the rear cylinder has had this problem occur again.If the engine has problems between 1/4 and 3/4 throttle, the jet needle and needle jet (most likely the jet needle) is likely the problem. If the engine is running poorly at 3/4 to full throttle, the main jet is the likely problem. Start the bike and measure the voltage on across the same white wires and it should be 54V or more (250v scale).A little rich is normal on these. They have to be by design. Plug fouling is just part of owning a Vulcan 800, and it's way worse if you make short trips or you're just starting the engine to let it run a little then turning it off. The plugs never get hot enough to burn off the carbon and they just foul. The 95 and 96 models had a higher 1st and 2nd gear ratio than all others I believe. This is why the 95-96 models have a 16/46 sprocket and chain set were all others have a 17/42 set.Identify one that you can use to connect to the resistor. It must be a switched power supply, so it only has voltage when you turn the ignition key. You connect the resistor between the switched power supply and the cable you removed from the ignition switch in step 2. Solder the connections together and put heat shrink over them for protection.Either way, it's my problem now and I want to fix it.
